Production order finished status

Posted on by 218
What is the flow of when you are supposed to change the production order status to released to finished?

What happens when you change the status to released to finished?

Is there a way to do a batch of multiple production order status changes or is it just one by one you have to change?

When trying to change the status from released to finished following pop up is generated:

When answering Yes following pop up is generated

Before status change I've done Production journal posting for the line 2000 and Capacity Ledger Entry was posted OK, but Item Ledger Entry was not generated.

This is a business-by-business timing question.  Some businesses can Finish a Production Order as soon as they have Posted their full Output.  Others need to wait for Vendor Invoices to be processed before they can close the Production Order.

The reasoning is once the Production Order has been changed to Finished Status it cannot be reopened.  Any missed costs such as manual item consumption, capacity/time recording, etc. would not be able to be costed to the Production Order after it is Finished.  In this case, it is recommended to use the Production Order No. as the Document No. for any Item Adjustments that are made as a correction to the missed consumption.  This way there is at least an identifier, even though it isn't directly on the Production Order itself.

The Change Status function is specific to the Production Order you have selected or open, and for good reason as this is a permanent change to the Production Order.  You don't want to leave them in Released Status forever either, as the system uses the Finish process to post non-RLC backflushing, capacity backflushing, WIP entries, etc.
