Visual studio license issue

Hi All,

In one of our sanbox VM , we are facing Visual studio error that the license is expired. If we try to enter Vs license key then it asks for admin credential which are not available on LCS.We tried with different user account for which VS is working on other DEV box, for them also it takes directly to admin credential window.

Somebody told me to use Visual Studio subscription licensing and sign in to Visual Studio with the email address (user account) associated with the license. There I can link a Visual Studio license to a user account by assigning an MSDN license to the user account or by assigning a license to the user account by using https://www.visualstudio.com/subscriptions-administration.

If I login to above site then it shows no subscription available for me.How can I get subscription licensing key? I am using my credential in another Dev VM.Can I get it from that VM?If yes, can you please let me know how?

Thanks,

Shri

    Hi Shri,

The important question is whether or not you have a VS license.

If you don't then you can make use of a 30 days trial once that trial is expired you need a proper VS license.

Do you have a VS license assigned or not?

    Best regards,

    Ludwig

As Ludwig mentioned, must have a VS license or a subscription.

Whether it is free, MSDN or any any other way

    Hi Ludwig,

Correct me if my understanding is wrong. In other dev VM I can login with my same credential and able to access VS. It means license is assigned to my those credential.

Is subscription and license are diffrent thing? If i click on

www.visualstudio.com/subscriptions-administration site , I don't get any option to subscribe.

    Thanks,

    Shri

    Hi Shri,

VS is assigned to credentials you logged in using the visual studio (it can be any dev VM but you login with your credentials). You will get options to subscribe based on your access.  Reach out to your admin team and ask for VS license (let them determine how).

Subscription is recurring charge (monthly). See below.
