Outlook Plug version compatibility with Dynamics 365 v9

Hi Community,

although quite late... we are upgrading from Dynamics 365 v8.2 to Dynamics 365 v9. Our organization uses the Outlook plug in (not the light weight app). We are currently on version 8.2.0002.0112. I believe that we need to upgrade this plug in for it to continue working with v9. I have been told that this has to do with Transport Layer Security described in the following article https://docs.microsoft.com/nl-nl/dynamics365/customer-engagement/admin/readme-9   

Can someone tell me if version 8.2.2.137 is compatible with version 9?

    Hi Debster, you'll first need to upgrade the D365 version up to v9. Unfortunately, the v9 D365 For Outlook only connects to v9 D365 and not to D365 8.2..

    You'll need to plan your upgrade such that -

    1. Your D365 is upgraded to v9.

    2. Then you update the plugin to v9 before the users start using it.

    Hi Priyesh,

    What I would like to do is upgrade the plug in before I upgrade CRM (Dynamics 365) But when I try to do this, I receive the following error message: "Dynamics 365 for Outlook is not installed on this computer or the update is incompatible with the current installation of Dynamics 365 for Outlook" . FYI... we are currenty on We are currently on version 8.2.0002.0112.

    Any ideas?

    You can connect to D365 v9 using the updated D365 For Outlook which is also available for v9 version - https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=56972

    The outlook plugin on the current version is not getting attached because the outlook plugin is not updated. You have to update the plugin and you can have an update from the windows modules installer worker. This will help you.

    Hi partner,

    I think it is compatible.

    The reason that D365 for Outlook version is 8.2.2.373 or higher is support for TLS 1.2.

    All D365 versions support TLS 1.0, 1.1 and 1.2. D365 v9.0 only supports TLS 1.2. (Read this article -> What is the change)

    So, as long as you use TLS 1.2 in D365 v8, you can also connect to D365 for Outlook v8.2.2.373.

    As for D365 for Outlook v8.2.2.137 and D365 v8.2.3.114, I feel that you only need to look at the major version. Both are v8.x.x.xxx. So it can be connected.

    This is my personal idea and is for reference only.

    Thanks much Lu. And do you also know if Outlook version 8.2.2.137 is compatible with Dynamics 365 version  8.2.3.114?

    Or is the version too high? Both are 8.2 but the outlook one is slightly higher than our current Dynamics 365 one

    Hi partner,

    I think it is compatible.

    • The version of the client cannot be a higher major version than your Dynamics 365 instance. (Read this article ->More Information)

    E.g: D365 for Outlook v8 client can connect to D365 v9 instance, D365 for Outlook v9 client can not connect to D365 v8 instance. 

    • Dynamics 365 for Microsoft Outlook v8.2.2.137 includes support for Transport Layer Security (TLS) 1.2, which is required for connecting Dynamics 365 for Outlook with Dynamics 365 (online), version 9.0. (Read this article -> Details)

    So D365 for Outlook version 8.2.2.137 is compatible with D365 version 9.
