Word Templates will not Print after Office Update

Posted on by 5

Hi,

Trying to follow the steps detailed in

  • Download Office.File.Explorer.zip from our Microsoft Dynamics File Exchange System website.
  • Extract the contents of the Office.File.Explorer.zip file to a easy to access location like the desktop
  • Create a folder on your desktop (or other easily accessible location) and name it something that notes it as the template folder.
  • In Microsoft Dynamics GP print Word Template document(s).
  • When prompted for the printer options, make sure you mark the 'File' option and point to the file from step 3.
    image
    etc
the problem is when we print a work document it appends test.docx.html  - any idea why that happens. As a result, the steps outlined don't work
    Thanks.

To sort of piggyback on Brandon's response, you really need to get to at least 18.3 where this was fixed. Obviously, this may not be feasible right now, but you really have to get off of 2015 (if that's the version you're on).

Another alternative is to ditch the Word templates and Report Writer all together. One suggestion is to possibly look into an add-on from Rockton Software called Dynamics Report Manager.

There's another one out there called Forms Printer from Accountable Software. I only have experience with the Rockton product.

This can use SSRS to generate all of the customer and vendor facing-forms (and any reports) from any screen in GP. Once it was implemented, all the woe with the Report Writer reports and Word templates and emailing from GP went away.

    Hey gpquestions,

If the version listed is GP 2015, then you will need to upgrade to the latest version of 2016 or 18.3 or later to fix this issue. This is covered in the link provided in the forum question.

    community.dynamics.com/.../word-templates-will-not-email-print-after-office-update

This is the latest update for both GP 2016 and 18.3 that should be used going forward as we upgrade to make sure we have all the fixes that are needed for year-end.

The workaround from the blog article is no longer recommended as this issue has been fixed in the versions of GP listed above.

    I hope this helps!

    Thank you!
