NAV software freezes

Having an issue w/ a couple of users who are accessing NAV via a terminal session across a vpn.  Sometimes when they are in the application and they right-click the application freezes rather than bring up context menu and I have to completely kill their session to the terminal server for them to be able to reconnect to NAV and work.  Sometimes they're able to right-click a number of times w/o any issue.  I'm checking what I can on the backend server, but wanted to see if possibly this might be an issue w/ the software.  If I have another program open on the same terminal server I don't lose the ability to right click there so wanted to see if I can perhaps do some sort of trace to see what is causing the issue.

have you installed the latest updates/hotfixes?

does it depend on the number of concurrent users?

is this a NAV only problem or do you have the same problem with other programs on that termina server (word, excel, ...)?

I'll have to try to get the build number.  It only seems to be impacting 2 users at the moment.  There are 4 users at that site, another 6 at another remote location that are working fine off the same terminal server.  And another 10-15 people using it over the headquarters LAN w/o any issues.  The other programs that are available on the terminal server seem to work fine for them.

    Hi Djenn,

Sometimes it is due to User Personalization. You can delete personalization of 2 mentioned users via Delete User Personalization page. But first check the same problem happened with other programs or already solved by updates/hotfixes as Jonathan's suggestion.

Try to test the session locally. Logon with a remote user account locally and test. With that you can discard if the issue is related to user personalization or to your remote connection :-))

    Good luck!

Unfortunately I don't have the users credentials, but figured I'd try it another way.  Having the user connect to a published desktop on the terminal server and use the application that way.  So if the right-click issue happens again, but when they return to the desktop the menu is there than I would think it would be some kind of issue w/ the session.  If it happens again and when they re-connect its still frozen I'd look at their profile.  If it doesn't happen again at all I'd look at the connection.

Not sure if it is related, but I just checked the users profiles and noticed that the 2 users w/ the issue have a personalizationstore file of over a 1mb.  Could that potentially cause an issue?

I'll be trying the application directly from the server desktop tonight and seeing if I'm able to reproduce the issue.

create a new test user and check if there is the same effect with that user.

remove both of the 2 users with the effect and re-create them.

Just delete both the users and try again. This might help you. I know it is not a proper solution, sometimes we have to try very silly tricks as well.  :)

Thanks.  I was just told by the person who actually creates the accounts in Nav that the accounts are based off of their Active Directory accounts so they can't just be deleted from the software.  I had asked that 2 temp accounts be created for the 2 users who are experiencing the issue.

You do not have to delete them from the AD. You can delete them from the Dynamics NAV and then recreate them in NAV.

Deleting from NAV does not affect to their AD accounts. It just delete the reference to your AD control.
