Why does 'Project ID' field not appear until after you have selected an expense category

Hi,

Just wondering why you cannot select a project ID until after you have selected an expense category.
My company uses specific categories for different projects so it would be logical to select the project first.

Cheers,

Sam

    Hello Sam,

In which form do you see this issue?

Can you provide some additional details of the steps you executed and where the issue arises?

Also, please let us know your AX version that you operate.

    Many thanks,

    Ludwig

    Hi Ludwig,

Thanks so much for the quick reply.

I am using Dynamics 365 Finance & Operations.

I have created a new expense report and I am adding a new expense to that report.

I then have the option to fill out an expense category, transaction date, merchant or payment method (some fields have been hidden). The project ID field does not appear until I have selected an expense category.

I'm just wondering if this is a standard system feature of it's something I could possibly change so that the project ID field is always visible.

    Cheers,

    Sam

    Hello Sam,

When you create the new expense report you can provide a purpose and a default project. Have you tried doing that? It might save you a view clicks. Other than that, there is not much that you can do.

    Best regards,

    Ludwig

There is a standard partly setup (& partly programmed) configuration for handling visibility for different field groups.

Look at Expense Management>>Setup>>General>>Expense Report Fields

The 3 options are display, do not display & read only... Project ID is already set to display.

also check the setup for category validation at project level

    Hi Sam,

When employees create an expense report, each expense entered must be associated with an expense category. So the field 'Expense Category' is required, but the field of project ID is not.

let us know if our suggestions helped and if the expense report got submitted with/without project

We do use validation but I have tried turning all forms of it off in our test environment and it doesn't help.

    Cheers,

    Sam
