I was just brought on to a project of an organization who has recently gone live. They are utilizing a financial dimension, let's call this one /Activity/, this dimension is a custom dimension. The issue is they are realizing that they want to utilize different activities for different legal entities, some may be shared but they are going to roll out quite a few LEs with their own respective activities. They will need to use legal entity override to suspend activities in the LEs where they should not be available. Just the thought of this solution gives me chills when considering the maintenance of this, each time they add an activity going forward they will need to suspends the activity in approx. 15 LEs. Even doing this through Excel is not very user friendly.
Do you have any suggestions on how to deal with this situation order to make it as intuitive and easy to maintain as possible? Could a customization be recommended, or perhaps is it worth reviewing exchanging the dimension for a new one that is entity based and tied to a unique for such as resources for example?
Any input on how to make a custom dimension more legal entity specific would be greatly appreciated.
You can consider creating a new entity-based dimension, such as EntityDimension. In this way, each legal entity has its own set of activities associated with that dimension. And create another database table to store the enumeration values for the different activities. This simplifies maintenance because the activity is directly associated with a specific legal entity. Or when you feel like a lot of work, you can consider using data management framework for data updates and imports, which enables you to update dimension values in bulk and reduce manual effort.

Kevin
