HOW CAN I MOVE FULLY CUSTOMIZED AX 2012 R3 FORM OR TABLE TO D365 F&O

Hi,

I would like to move AX 2012 R3 fully customized forms and tables to D365. Now the file in XPO and D365 Fo will accept .XML file structure. IS there a way to convert object-wise from XPO to .XML file and later import in D365?

I have the same question (0)

You need to perform a code upgrade. You'll find more details in F&O documentation - start at Code migration and upgrade home page.

Thank You Martin for the reply. I am very new to D365 and the problem I have here is I don't want to move the entire model store to D365 FO. I need to move some selected forms and Tables.

I read the document you shared, but it seems too technical for me. I have one developer with me and he said if there is a way to convert xpo to XMl , it would be very easy.

I understand you want it, but it's not possible, as far as I now.

You're wrong in thinking that "to move the whole modelstore" doesn't allow you "to move some selected forms and Tables". The solution is preparing a modelstore that doesn't contain any customizations except of those selected objects. Then you can follow the usual code upgrade process.

    Hi Safeer,

Martin is correct. The code upgrade tool is preparing objects in Visual Studio which needs to be reviewed anyway as e.g. overlayering is not possible anymore. When the code upgrade is ready, you need to move objects to an extension model. To get only a selected number of customizations, you can either cleanup the upgraded code in Dynamics 365 or, like Martin suggested, prior remove from AX 2012.

"The solution is preparing a modelstore that doesn't contain any customizations except of those selected objects." @martin what i understand the model will have whole structure of AX, I need for example only a fully customized form to move to D365. Is there a way i can create a model store with that form and move to D365 FO.

Yes, it it is possible. I wouldn't have suggested doing it if I thought it wasn't possible.

For example, you can move the form (and related custom objects that the form uses, if any) to a new model and then delete all other custom models. Or you can export the objects and import them to a clean modelstore.

We are using USR model , How can I create a new model and dump all required elements to that model without effecting environments?

"Without affecting environments" is easy - use a development environment and don't put changes to source control and don't deploy them anywhere. Then no other environment can be impacted.

Leave the model creation and the moving of elements to developers. They should know how to do it.

Note that using the USR Model is a bad idea. But it doesn't matter too much anymore if you're migrating to F&O.

    Dear Martin,

Sorry for the late reply. I went to AOT>>TOOLSMODEL MANAGEMNT >> CREATE MODEL IN USR (AS existing model in USR). But I cannot see the model that i created in models list .Do you have any doc that tells create a model apart from microsoft doc as i refrred that.

I'm sorry, but I have no idea what you mean by "as existing model in USR". I'm not aware of any such an option, and it also doesn't make sense to me. What is "creating a new model as an existing model"?

    What exactly did you do?

By the way, you said you're very new to AX, it's too technical for you and that you had a developer with you, so why don't ask you the developer to do it or to show it to you? It'll be easier that chatting in a forum.
