Hi All,
I have a requirement to have a D365 portal form which accepts few fields and checks if there is a record with those details.
I have looked at portal Entityform/Web form, both needs the mode to be Insert/Edit type, but in this case we are not doing any insert/update, just need to validate the details and throw a message back to the user.
Any thoughts please?

Hi Jeevan,
So you want to check if there is a corresponding record exists or not by couple of fields?
If so, you could use Entity list OData to query the record by the fields and get the response.

May be i was not clear with the details, sorry, user will provide details for couple of fields, ex: last name and email address of a contact(in my case it is different), has to check against D365 if there is a record with that combination and show the response whether it is exists or not.

1. If you will not do any insert/update, you could choose "ReadOnly" in form mode.
2. Do you mean you want to open a record and check the information and then return a message to the user?
If so , you could choose form mode "Readonly" as we said in point 1 and then add a js code to the form like this.
You could add both js/jQuery here to fulfill your needs here.
