Zohan,
As the name suggests AIF is the framework provided by MS for Integrations with 3rd party. Let's say you have a customer who wants to buy your company products, he will place order. But the problem is he doesn't have access to AX. So what you would do is, you will create your own service, in this case (to create an Sales Order) you can use Microsoft's provided service, you will deploy the service and will give url for service to your client to consume.
Cutting the long story short, to access AX remotely you use AIF.
There are different kinds of services. Simplest can be writing your own class and exposing it as a service. Putting this service into a service group and deploying it.
You can further check the documentation provided by MS here.
