Lead Rating (cold, warm, hot)

Posted on by Microsoft Employee

Hi,

I can't seem to find my answer in the associated questions already asked. When I qualify a lead to an opportunity, the rating (cold, warm, hot) becomes read only. I can only edit this by reopening the lead in which case it then creates a duplicate opportunity when I qualify it again.

I understand a workflow/plugin would be required for the rating to automatically change as the sale process progresses, however, if there is a way I can manually change the rating without re-activating the lead and creating duplicate opportunities in the meantime, that would be great.

Can anybody shed some light on this please? Thank you.

    Hi

    You could try the following

If you have pre-defined criteria for when it should be set to Cold/Warm/Hot, you can create a real-time workflow that triggers On Before status change (meaning just before its converted to Opportunity - Similar to writing a pre-op/val plugin) and checks the condition and update lead with the correct rating value. please see below screen grabs.

Great thanks for your help, I understand. It's a pity the Rating on the lead screen doesn't carry over to the opportunity to edit as the sale progresses. Pointless having it locked to lead screen only.

    Thanks again

Once you qualify a Lead, it becomes an opportunity and the changes in data can be done only in an opportunity. Hence, reactivating lead is going to create duplicate opportunity. There is no workaround once the lead is converted.

    Hi,

Thanks for your reply. So when you say the changes are pulled into opportunity hence the changes can be done on opportunity too - can the rating temperature be changed within the opportunity or not? Just seems a bit pointless as 99% of leads are going to be cold until the sale progresses to warm/hot but I can't change it after lead screen.

    Thanks

    Hi,

Once the lead is qualified, we can not edit anything in the lead. And it is also not the best practice to update Lead by reactivating it. The data also gets pulled in Opportunity hence the changes can be done on Opportunity too.
