D365 Sales - Copy Environment

Hello,

I've been asked to create a copy of our existing D365 Sales Production environment to a Sandbox environment. I've found this link, https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/power-platform/admin/create-environment which is pretty good for steps, but I am not sure of the following: First, I only have a PROD and default environment.  So to use Copy, do I need to create a new environment first or will the copy create one for me? When I make a copy to create this new sandbox, I intend to use the Everything option, since we aren't positive users need access to test new development or not.  I read that the new copy will initially be in admin mode and will disable background operations.  And I see the things to check and change in copy before enabling it for users. Are there any gotchas to make sure I change or disable so PROD is never mistakenly accessed?

Thanks,

Steve

You will need to create the environment to copy to yourself.  Once its created then you will see the section that says 'Select environment to overwrite', so then select that newly created environment to overwrite.  Will you be using Security Groups?  If not then I believe it will give any user with a Dynamics 365 License access to this environment automatically.

Thank you for the information.  Okay, then I will be creating a new environment.  Any hitches to how that should be created?  I assume it should be with a database.  Also, we will be using security groups, so I assume security will need checked/reset after the initial disabling of the background services when in Admin mode?

    Thanks,

    Steve
