What is preferred method to connect from Power BI Desktop to a Dynamics Nav database?

use "Odata feed connection" like suggested by Microsoft, with this type of connection you can use flowfields.
example of connection
powerbi.microsoft.com/.../powerbi-content-pack-microsoft-dynamics-nav
