What kind of database is used in D365 FnO

To inquire about the database used in Dynamics 365 Finance and Operations (D365 FnO). I am a bit confused and would appreciate your guidance on this matter.

Could you please advise which database is used in D365 FnO? I am aware of three possible options:
1) Dataverse
2) Azure SQL table
3) Others

Additionally, I would like to know where I can find information related to this topic in the Lifecycle Services (LCS) portal. It would be great if you could provide me with the specific location or any relevant resources.

    Hi,

It's Microsoft SQL Server. What kind of information are you after? Perhaps this will help, you can connect to the database of the 2 Tier environments (not production) with SQL Server Management Studio, or other tool. See link below.

SQL Server is used only on T1 (DEV) environments and on-premises deployment. Normal T2+ sandboxes and production environments use Azure SQL, not SQL Server.

Some data are also stored in Azure blob storage (Azure storage emulator on T1).

Your F&O environment may be using Dataverse as well.

    Thank All.

May i know when the dataverse will be used? Some persons told me that the data management is working with databverse. Please correct me.

For example, you may be using Dual-write, access F&O data through Dataverse virtual entities, use Business performance analytics or so.

Data management in F&O isn't related to Dataverse, but as I mentioned, data entities can be used in there.

Azure SQL is still SQL Server at the base. Just saying.

I understand your argument, but I still disagree.

In my opinion, Azure SQL is a separate product that is indeed based on SQL Server, but it isn't the same. F&O admins/devs usually run into the differences when dealing with backups, but there are other differences as well. For example, you can check Feature comparison of Azure SQL Database, Azure SQL Managed Instance and SQL Server on a VM or T-SQL differences between SQL Server and Azure SQL Database.

When you put it like this, I understand your point of view and also agree with you.
