To resolve this issue, export the contact entity in an unmanaged solution, open the customization.xml file of the solution, find the IsValidForAdvancedFind Property for the contact entity and update the value to '1' before importing the solution back into CRM.
Do you have read permissions for the contact entity? Check your security roles
