Hello,
We are seeking to leverage the GPS-tracking / location-tracking functionality of the Field Service app. For example, we want to be able to track arrival times of our technicians to customer sites, so that we can compare them to scheduled arrival times. Fortunately, it seems that such GPS-tracking functionality is there.
Unfortunately, however, the law in California forbids employers from tracking employees while they are clocked out. This means that our employees must sign out from the Field Service app every time they clock-out (including for their meal breaks), and if they forget to do that, we violate the law by tracking them. Additionally, they must log into the app each time they clock-in, and if they forget to do that, we lose our ability to track customer arrival times. Additionally, our technicians are sometimes required to clock-in/out while driving, so we're trying to avoid them having to operate their phones while driving.
Overall, it would be great to be able to avoid having our technicians log in/out of the Field Service app to control precisely when their locations are tracked / not tracked. We've explored apple automation features to automate this process on their phones, but unfortunately there is no clean way of automating this process using iPhone automation either. Another alternative is for technicians to be changing the GPS tracking setting from Always Allow to Never for the Field Service app each time they clock out, but this solution is also relying on them remembering to perform this action. Is there a better solution that you could recommend?
