Hi,
If I add a Bookable Resource to the project Team and allocate a % capacity of 50%, what effect does it have?
If I then go to Schedule/Resources and assign that team resource to a task, I think I would have expected it to have an impact on the Estimate.
If I allocate someone who is 100% dedicated to an 8 hour task then the estimate is 8 x 100% x £hourly rate = Estimate.
but if I allocated someone who is 50% allocated then shouldn't it have some different effect? Either by trying to spread out the task or be 8 x 50% x £hourly rate = Estimate.
I can see some arguments against both of those, but otherwise I can't see what the effect of a Percentage Allocation is doing at all. Is it to do with calculating over-booking.
Can anyone point me to any resources, docs, blogs, videos etc?
Thanks!
Ged
Hi Partner,
The Percentage Capacity method books the resource for a percentage of capacity for the specified from and to dates. For example, if a resource's calendar is set to work eight hours per day, five days a week, setting a start and end date that covers five working days at 50% capacity would book the resource for 20 hours. The individual bookings per day are spread equally across the period, four hours per day in this example. The booking is done without regard to the resource’s remaining capacity. If the resource is already booked during that period on other projects, the 20 hours is booked as additional hours, which potentially leads to overbookings.
