Multiple day scheduling with different start/end location addresses

Hello,

we have a customer requirement for the following:

The system must be able to handle optimized multi-day scheduling.

What does multi-day scheduling mean in this scenario? It means that monday, the resource A has the start location as is home and end location the hotel. The 2nd day he has the start location the hotel of the previous night and the end location the next hotel or the same, and this goes on until friday, where the end location is again the resource location.

Problem:

I cannot select different address as start and location for different days.

What we tried or thought about:

a) create the Hotels as Organizational units, and have something to change the start location and end location in that interval of days. But this would pollute the OUs if we want to use them in the future for what they are made of.

b) create dummy work orders that go from 8pm to 7am the next day, to see if we can keep the start location of the ressource at the hotel the next day. The system is smart and calculates again the travel time from the resource address and not from the hotel.

All of this need to also optimized.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

RE: Multiple day scheduling with different start/end location addresses

    Hi Emmanuel,

I appreciate this reply is quite late but we've released a product on AppSource to address this short coming in Field Service. It essentially does the dummy work order process you listed above but it makes it far easier for your users to manage. There is a free trial if you'd like to give it a go. You can find it here: appsource.microsoft.com/.../warptechnologiesltd1670946088918.warp_rlo

If you need anything more on it you can contact me james.taylor@warp.co.uk

    Thanks,

    James

RE: Multiple day scheduling with different start/end location addresses

    Hello Alexander,

As promised here is the way we were able to make it work for now with the input of technical team from MS.

We create dummy requirements for the Hotel that are geocoded.

We book those requirements with drag and drop scheduling.

We use find availability for the work orders within the requirement views panel.

The dummy requirement are booked from the end of the day today (within the work hours) until the begining of tomorrow (end must fall inside the work hours). So, for example, we have a booking from 6pm on Monday until 8am on Tuesday.

After that requirement is booked, we use schedule assistant, that calculates the travel time properly.

Issues that MS is still working on: Drag and drop to schedule WO, doesn't calculate the travel time correctly in a multiday scenario.

Regarding the map not showing the correct path, MS will not tackle it for now, since they are releasing a new Schedule Board before the EOY.

Hope it helps to someone with the same issue.

RE: Multiple day scheduling with different start/end location addresses

    Hello Alexander,

Sorry for letting you wait for an answer.

My resources work hours are from 9am to 5pm. If i create this booking within their work hours (for example: booking hotel at 9:01am) and just after the work order booking, the travel path on the map, still goes from the resource address to the hotel booking.

This will impact the travel time of the resource, and some of them might not even popup on the schedule assistant proposal.

    Thanks for your help.

PS: i've also opened a ticket with MS. Still waiting for an answer from them. As soon as i have i'll post it here.

Hi Emmanuel, I had a chat with Engineering, can you try - as a workaround - to create the entire booking inside the working hours? Can be as short as you like, but must completely fall into working hours.

Looks like a bug to me, I would file a support ticket.

RE: Multiple day scheduling with different start/end location addresses

    Hello Alexander,

i think i was able to do it, but it's quite a twisted process.

    So, i did the following:

1 - Created a resource requirement with a latitude and longitude of Paris

2 - booked that requirement, with schedule assistant, on a resource with no work hours (always available) - booking starting time 4:59PM on Monday and end time Tuesday 09:01AM

3 - booked a WO located in Paris on the same resource and got a travel time of 7 minutes (success!!! because the resource address is Brussels)

But then the weird things started:

1 - if i change the booking status manually from the schedule board, the travel time of 7 minutes is gone, and becomes a travel time of 3h (duration from Brussels to Paris)

2 - the map doesn't show the trajectory from the hotel to the WO. Instead it shows it from the resource address to the WO

    Thing that went well:

1 - if i change the status from the booking form, the travel time doesn't change and stays correct.

I will file a ticket with MS, because if this works, i don't see with it shouldn't on the schedule board.

Thanks a lot for the hints Alexander.

RE: Multiple day scheduling with different start/end location addresses

It seems that we introduced a bug since the last time I tried it. In my instance the above works for Schedule Assistant, but not for drag & drop. Have filed an internal ticket. Can you please try Schedule Assistant? If it works and drag & drop doesn't, please also file a ticket.

RE: Multiple day scheduling with different start/end location addresses

    Hello Alexander,

just tried your suggestion, but i might be doing something wrong.

So my resource has work hours from 9am to 5pm.

I booked the dummy booking for the hotel with a start time of 4:59pm of today and with a end time of 9:01am of tomorrow.

I have another booking for tomorrow that starts around 09:30am.

My resource address is in Belgium. The dummy booking in Paris. And the work order of tomorrow again in Belgium.

If i visualize only one day on the schedule board, and select my resource, within the map i don't see the trajectory from Paris to Belgium, but from the resource address (Belgium) to the mission address (Belgium). The start address on the hotel is completely bypassed.

    Am i missing something?

    Thanks.

RE: Multiple day scheduling with different start/end location addresses

The booking has lat/long, which you would need to programmatically fill based on the hotel address. IMO still better than dummy work orders that need to be filtered out in all "normal" views. Make sure that your booking reaches at least 1 minute into the working hours, then the first travel of the next day should consider that as the start location.

RE: Multiple day scheduling with different start/end location addresses

    Hello Alexander,

do you geocode the booking in order to have the latitude and longitude filled then? OOTB the entity doesn't have address fields. I believe it gets it from the WO.

Even if you do, how do you set the start location to the dummy booking address? If i do that, the system still calculates, for the second date, the travel distance from the resource address and not the booking address.

    Thanks for you help Alexander.
