D365 HR - Leave absence manager feature - workflow issue

We are looking to role out the absence manager feature in D365 HR but when trying to add this into the workflow there isn't the option to add a condition to state if there is an absence manager available go to them for approval but if not go onto the managerial hierarchy for approval. We'd like it set up this way as not all employees will be set up with an absence manager therefore still need the option for the workflow to go through to their Manager for approval.

Have any other companies rolled out the absence manager feature and if so what does your workflow look like? Keen to look at some examples.

I have the same question (0)

    Hi Chloe,

    Tricky one, that is. The OOTB workflow editor won't be able to accommodate this perfectly to the best of my knowledge.

    I've pondered the subject myself previously, and the furthest I got was to make use of an Escalation path, whereby the approval is role-based, the time limit is one day, and the escalation path runs to the employee's manager.

    That way, Absence Managers have one day to handle the request. If there is no Absence manager, it will still be automatically sent on, but with a day's delay. I appreciate that this must be quite frustrating, but it's the only way I can see us handle this within the current constraints of the editor. See below for some sample screenshots;

    Hi Sytse,

    Thanks for commenting on this and thanks for your input/screenshots, this is really frustrating as I feel like the standard functionality should be able to include such a condition rather than having to do a workaround like you have suggested. Interesting to know how it could potentially work though! Hopefully Microsoft improve on this soon..

    Many thanks,

    Chloe
