Cost of Goods Sold for Kit Items

Even though we selected the Cost of Goods Sold Account to be posted from Kit Item, our sales transactions are posting the COGS from the Component Items.  Even more troubling, the COGS account is posted properly in our Sandbox environment.  Is there a setting somewhere that is overriding our selection to post COGS from the Kit Item?

    Good day,

When the kit components  are being added to the kit item do you indicate where to pull the cost?

For the kit items, we select the option for Cost of Goods Sold account to come from the kit item versus the component items.  Is that what you are asking?

    Hello Tony,

Thank you for posting your question on the Forums. I will be assisting you with your question today.

The first thing i would check is what Accounts you have assigned to these Items/Kits as this is likely where it is pulling the wrong Account from.

    Inventory >> Cards >> Item >> Accounts

If you dont have any Accounts defined for the Items, check the Posting Accounts for Sales and Inventory.

Administration >> Setup >> Posting >> Posting Accounts

Verify that your Accounts are defined correctly.

Please let us know if these are correct.

    Thank you!

Accounts have been established for all our kit and component items.  That is why we are expecting the COGS to post to the kit item accounts, but they are incorrectly posting to the component item accounts.  Any help is much appreciated!

Hi Rosemary, did I miss a response?  I still have not heard what may be causing our issue or how to correct it.  Any help is much appreciated!

    Hello Tony,

    Thank you for your response.

I and tested this and the Account would have to be entered incorrectly from where you are pulling it from. Please see my response below.

    1. If you do not have any accounts setup on the Items/Kits themselves, the Accounts will be pulled from the Posting Account Setup window.
      1. I assume you have the Accounts defined by item.
    2. If we use From Kit Item option for the Cost of Goods sold Account in the Item Kit Maintenance window, this is going to pull the COGS account from the Actual Item that is being made from the Kit. In the screenshot below, it would pull the COGS account from my Item 2.

    1. If i have From Component Item marked in the Item Kit Maintenance window, it will pull the COGS account from the Component Item. In the screenshot below, this would pull the COGS icon from KIT1.

Can you provide the following screenshots of the Item/Kit in question.

    1. Item Kit Maintenance window for the Item/Kit in question.
    2. Item Account window for the Item and Kit Item in question.
    3. Screenshot of the Posting Journal showing the COGS Account getting used.
    4. Screenshot of the Posting Accounts Setup window for Sales and Inventory to see what COGS Account is assigned.

If you are set to pull the COGS Account from the Kit Item, then verify the Account you have defined for the Item (Not Component Item) is defined correctly.

    Thank you!

This is how we build our Kit items, as far as I know there isn't any issues with the COG

Also, I forgot, check the SOP setup there is an option there to check to use the component cost....
