Hi guys,

Still stuck with this old sample data from 2016, is there any actual sample data for D365 Field service and RSO please?

thanks

Good morning, afternoon, or evening depending on your location!

Currently, there doesn’t appear to be updated sample data specifically for 2024/2025. The sample data provided for Field Service and RSO often dates back to earlier versions, such as 2016. However, you can explore using copilot.

Copilot can help generate sample data in various scenarios to simulate or test features in Dynamics 365 Field Service, RSO, or other business solutions. Here's how you could leverage Copilot effectively:
    1. Generate Table Data:
      • Provide instructions on the types of entities (e.g., "Work Orders," "Service Tasks") and their attributes (e.g., "Name," "Scheduled Date," "Technician").
      • Copilot can generate a structured dataset in Excel, CSV, or JSON format.
    2. Simulate Scenarios:
      • Describe the scenarios you're testing (e.g., scheduling optimization for Resource Scheduling).
      • Copilot can create mock data sets with varying complexity, such as scheduling multiple technicians across regions.
    3. Build Custom Templates:
      • Request templates for entities like "Price List Items" or "Service Activities."
      • Copilot can help design forms or predefined records for easy import into Dynamics.
    4. Analyze and Refine:
      • If the sample data needs adjustments to better fit your needs, Copilot can tweak parameters (e.g., dates, job types, or roles).

    Step 1: Define Your Requirements
Before starting, decide on the entities and attributes you need for RSO and Field Service. For example:
    • For RSO: "Technicians," "Work Orders," "Resources," "Schedules."
    • For Field Service: "Service Tasks," "Accounts," "Customers," "Product Inventory." Specify the data structure (e.g., names, dates, locations, priorities, estimated hours).
    Step 2: Request Sample Data
Ask Copilot to generate sample data for specific entities with predefined attributes. For example:
    1. Technicians:
      • Names, skills (e.g., electrical, plumbing), availability (e.g., Monday-Friday, 8 AM-5 PM).
      • Locations (e.g., Charlotte, Raleigh, Asheville).
    2. Work Orders:
      • Titles (e.g., "Fix HVAC unit"), priority levels (e.g., High, Low), scheduled dates, estimated hours.
    3. Schedules:
      • Assign technicians to work orders with specific times, dates, and travel constraints.
    Step 3: Export Data
Once Copilot generates sample data, export it into a usable format:
    • Choose Excel for structured sample data that can be edited manually.
    • Opt for CSV or JSON for importing data into Dynamics 365.
Step 4: Import Data into Dynamics 365
    1. Use the Data Import Wizard in Dynamics 365 to upload the generated sample data.
      • Navigate to Settings > Data Management > Imports.
      • Select your file format (CSV/Excel) and map fields to match your Dynamics 365 entities.
    Step 5: Test Scenarios
Simulate RSO and Field Service functionalities:
    • In RSO:
      • Optimize technician schedules to ensure resources are utilized efficiently.
    • In Field Service:
      • Assign work orders to technicians and track progress based on sample data.
    Step 6: Iterate and Refine
If the initial sample data doesn't meet your needs:
    1. Request Copilot to refine it (e.g., add more variations in technician skill levels or work order priorities).
    2. Adjust parameters to match your business scenarios more closely.
Step 7: Use Copilot for Automation
Leverage Copilot for ongoing testing by:
    • Generating new datasets for specific time periods (e.g., monthly schedules).
    • Simulating seasonal demand by adding variability in work orders and technician availability.

    Example prompt:
Generate sample data for [specific purpose, e.g., Resource Scheduling Optimization or Field Service]. Include entities such as [list entities, e.g., Technicians, Work Orders, Schedules]. Each entity should have attributes like [list attributes, e.g., Name, Skills, Availability, Priority]. Provide the data in [desired format, e.g., CSV, Excel, JSON] for import into Dynamics 365. The sample data should reflect [specific scenarios, e.g., realistic scheduling conflicts, seasonal demand, geographic distribution].

    Hope this helps some!

You can use www.mockaroo.com to generate sets of sample data to import.

There is also a tool by Carl Cookson in the xRMtoolkit that uses Mockaroo, but brings it to another Dynamics specific level.

Howdy, here's an article on Learn that guides you through the creation of sample data using Copilot, which even lets it tie the sample data to your geographical location and demo context: Use Copilot to create sample data for Field Service - Dynamics 365 | Microsoft Learn
