Integrate D365 F&O data with Azure SQL database

I have a requirement to push data in the D365 to land in Azure SQL database.

The data is coming from data entities out of D365 Finance & operations. I was considering using the BYOD data management feature within dynamics 365 instead to schedule incremental exports from D365 to Azure DB directly. I came across some other methods online such as using Azure data factory instead to push data from Dataverse (which we have enables) to Azure DB. I also saw that the data lake storage account may be required for this.

Can you please suggest me the best way to accomplish this? I would like to optimize for simplicity, efficiency, and cost-efficiency. At first, it seemed to me that BYOD would be the simplest and best option, but I have seen conflicting opinions online. Please let me know what you suggest and how you would go about it.

Thanks in advance!

Both BYOD and Synapse-Link can be used. From cost perspective, its more or less similar because BYOD uses Azure SQL and Synapse-Link use Storage account and Synapse serverless SQL pool. The advantage of using Synapse-Link is sync is near-real-time and table level data can be used

Please consider explore and use Azure Synapse-Link. This will export D365 tables & data entities to Azure storage account and  Synapse serverless SQL pool. Thanks Anthony,

Would it be possible to use Azure Data Factory alone and not need Azure Synapse Link? I haven't been able to find any resources online, but I am wondering if it is possible to construct an Azure Data Factory pipeline to copy data from D365 F&O (source) and write it to Azure SQL Database (target) on an incremental update scheduled job. the goal is to insert new rows, edit ones currently there, and delete ones based on operations that occur in D365.

The main reasons for me would be on demand data vs the weaker performance of refreshing from BYOD, the table level access rather than being restricted to data entities, and then the future possibilities of synapse link once setup. It depends on your scenarios too, how many entities, data volumes, etc. If these are low BYOD might be sufficient.

    Thanks Anthony,

Is there a reason I shouldn't use the BYOD feature in D365 data management? It seems a lot more simple and with no added set up or costs.

Synapse link is the new method designed for you scenario, for accessing your D365 Finance data and data warehousing:

Once in Synapse, you have all the tools available to process your data downstream.

If replaces export to data lake, see the first note here:
