Plan Group and Priority

Hi All,

I'll be needing some help in understanding the function and set-up for plan group and priority.

I run a test using the following:

a) Scenario 1

plan-group.png

I have 50 kg for test3 and 100kg in test4 in the inventory.

I created an SO of 150 kg test item (FG).

When I ran master scheduling for the item, the  system gave me a purchased order of 100 kg for test3, then planned transfer of 150 kg to my production warehouse.

Is there anything wrong with the set-up? I'm expecting the system to issue a planned transfer of 50 kg (test3) and 100kg (test4) to fulfill 150kg of test item.

b) Scenario 2

Instead of test3 and test4, i used test 1 and test 2 for the items in the formula line; where:

test1       0 kg in inventory, priority

test2       150 kg in inventory, substitute

After i run master scheduling, the system gave me a purchased order of 150kg for test1.

As per the result from the above scenarios, it seems that the second priority was not included in the planning.

Are there any fields that i missed out to make the use of substitute work?

Thank you in advance.

    Hello Sacha

Quantity is required in line with small priority (in your screen on line with test4 ) in line with test3 quantity =0.

then system find small priority =1 (find100) and looking for other 50 and find it as test3.

Then you look for formula on planned order and there you find two line   one with test4 and second with test3

    Best regards

    Hi Thomasz,

Thank you for the clarification on priority setting.

I tried as you suggested above and my formula lines now appear like this:

    plan.jpg

However, when i run master scheduling, i was given the following:

    plan.jpg

It appears that it still does not consider my second priority.

Are there any other fields or set-up that i must check?

    Hello Sacha

You must check are there any other requirements for your item test3.

And this depends on many other standard planning parameters.

You can create third line in formuła with test3 without plan group and priority an quantity 0,01

Item Quantity Per series unit plan group priority
    test4 1 1 kg 52 1
    test3 1 kg 52 2
    test3 0,01 1 kg

after plan you check third line create planned order or used your material form inventory.

You are planned order for finish goods on 150  and have free 100 item4 and 50 item3   then expect result for me (if you have 3 lines in formula)

    1 line 100kg (on hand) test4

    3 line 1,5 kg (on hand) test3

    2 line 48,5 kg (on hand) test3

1line  1,5 kg (purchase order) test4   (because you have no free substitution)

    Best regards

    RE: Plan Group and Priority

    Hi Thomasz,

I did as you said, and came up with the following formula lines:

    planned-order-trial-3.jpg

However, the result was not similar to the expected.

It still did not use the substitute; instead, issue a planned purchased for test 4.

Planned purchase of 50 kg test 4, then transfer 150 kg (purchased 50 kg + 100 kg on hand).

    Planned transfer of 1.5 kg test 3 for the 0.01 kg/1 kg (150 x 0.01 = 1.5 kg)

    planned-order-trial-3.jpg

I dont have any other requirement for both items as these are only created to test for this scenario.

Is there any other thing that i missed out?

Btw, thank you for taking the time to understand and further test my case. :)

    Hello Sacha

Try create on-hand test3 on required inventory dimension. I don't know priority and planned group cooperated with transfer.

    RE: Plan Group and Priority

    Hi Thomasz,

It seems to work when i have stock in the same warehouse as where i'm supposed to consume it.

    Using the previous set-up:

    Test 4           100 kg (Warehouse 1)

    Test 3             50 kg (Warehouse 1)

    Then, i did movement:

    Test 4             25 kg (Warehouse 2)

    Test 3             25 kg (Warehouse 2)

When i run master scheduling, the system did not release a planned purchase, but only transfer order:

    6763.formula.jpg

Formula, at Master Planning, shows the following:

    6763.formula.jpg

Planned transfer    Test 4      100 kg

Test 4         25 kg (already in Warehouse 2)

Test 3         25 kg (already in Warehouse 2)

I'll try to apply the above to my existing items and see if it will behave similarly.

    Thank you!

    RE: Plan Group and Priority

    Hi Thomasz,

Do you know if there is any difference between the two delete buttons in master planning:

    4786.Common-Delete.jpg  vs   4786.Common-Delete.jpg

The use of plan group and priority seems to change when i deleted the plan in Master Planning --> Periodic --> Delete Plan.

From the set-up above, when i re-run the planning, the system released a planned purchase and seems to ignore the substitute again.

Does deleting the plan and re-planning it again have an effect on use of plan group and substitute?

The concept might be basic, but i would appreciate if you could explain further if there is any difference between the two.

I originally thought that their function is the same.

    Thank you!

PS: When i created a new set of test items, generated plan was similar as before.

Existing items before "delete plan" behaves differently.

    Hello Sacha

    Is the same functionality.

    But     ;-)

delete plan is faster (from periodic)

second screen - you must check planner order to delete them. Of course you can select all but then delete plan is faster

    Best regards

    RE: Plan Group and Priority

    Hi Thomasz,

I also thought that they're just the same.

I'm just puzzled how the use of plan group and priority seems to behave differently after i use "delete plan".

The new set of items i created also behaved differently when i "delete plan" and re-run master scheduling.

The system is ignoring even the priority 1 item, which has an existing inventory inside the same warehouse as consumption warehouse.

    I'm getting confused now....

    RE: Plan Group and Priority

Hi there Sacha, I know it's been a long time for this thread. I've also had different results when using "delete plan" vs deleting planned orders, did you find out something about this?.

I think, considering my tests, when you run Master Planning, AX takes a picture of the data you have, regarding stock levels, safety (minimum) stocks and everything related. If you use "delete plan", you loose that info, but, if you just delete planned orders, you do not loose that data.

By the way, this thread was very useful since I was trying to find out about priorities and planning groups.
