Dynamic export to Excel : Message "This Web query returned no data"

Posted on by Microsoft Employee

Hi all,

since the migration to version 9.0, we met an error when trying to refresh data from Dynamic Export Excel Sheet from Dynamics 365 Online.

From the CRM, the exportation is ok. But once we click on "Refresh" button, we got the error message :

"This Web query returned no data. To modify the query, click OK, click the name of the external data range in the name box on the formula bar, and then click Edit Query on the External Data toolbar."

Is it a problem with authentification ?

The strange thing is that sometimes it's working and sometimes not. But impossible to know why...

thanks for your help !

Steve

^^This works! If the button to open Advanced Find is gone, add ?pagetype=advancedfind to your URL after "main.aspx".

I have discovered that this is a known problem with exporting CUSTOM VIEWS to a dynamic spreadsheet.

    The workaround is to

    * Select the 'Advanced Find' button (filter icon near the settings button on the top right when displaying a view)

    * Select the custom view in the drop-down on the right

    * Click '!' to display the results

    * Select "Export to dynamic spreadsheet' from the drop-down list.

    * Open file in Excel

    * Go to Data menu

    * Select 'Refresh All' to refresh the data via the data connection

You should find that this will work! (I've spent rather a long time reaching this solution!).

    cheers,

    Dominic

    Hi Steve,

This is an integration problem between D365 and Excel. I tested it on my computer and there is no perfect solution to this problem.

You must perform the above steps each time you open Excel to get D365 data.

I tried refreshing the data when the file was opened, but when I open Excel it pops up the error message you mentioned.

So I suggest you raise a Microsoft support ticket to completely solve this problem.

    Hope this helps.

    Hi Lu Hao,

thanks for your answer. It seems to be a good solution.

But do you know why this happen ? Before migration to 9.0 from 8.2, users never met the requirement to "login in Excel" before refreshing data...

Or is it a problem on our side, with IE11 or Windows 7 configuration ?

    Thanks & Regards,

    Steve

    Hi Steve,

This is because you have not connected your D365 on Excel, so you can't get data from D365.

    You could do this:

In the beginning, I encountered the same problem as yours.

    8726.4.JPG

I right click on the cell with the data and click Edit Query.

    5684.2.JPG

Log in to D365 with the corresponding account in the popup window.

    7750.3.JPG

This error message will appear after logging in, please ignore it, click OK, and close the popup.

    8726.4.JPG

Then, the Excel data will be refreshed normally.

Every time you open Ecxel, you have to do the above to refresh the data.

    Hope this helps.

    Best Regards,

    Lu Hao
