Partial Production Orders

Hi:

I'm not finding any instructions online on how to process a production order for a partial quantity.  How do you do so?

When I attempted this myself, the "Remaining Quantity" field matched the Quantity field.  This is incorrect.

The Released Production Order contained a Quantity in its header of 20.

I changed the line item's quantity, from 20 to 8.  Why would the "Remaining Quantity" field change to 8, instead of to 12?

Anyway, after changing the status to Finished, the only way to begin processing the partially Finished order was to reopen it.  Is that the way to process a partially Finished order?

Regardless, what's the easiest way to find a partially Finished order so that you know you have to return to it and finish it?

Thanks!

John

    Partial Production Orders
    Hello,

In Business Central, to process a production order for a partial quantity, you should use the Output Journal or the Production Journal and enter the actual quantity produced. You don’t need to change the quantity on the production order line itself. If your released production order is for 20 units, and you produce 8, you should post 8 as the output quantity, which will then update the Remaining Quantity to 12 automatically.

Changing the quantity on the production line manually will overwrite the order plan and set the total quantity to what you entered, which is why you saw the Remaining Quantity become 8—it assumed 8 is now the total production required.

After partial posting, the order remains in Released status and can continue to be used until fully posted. Do not change the status to Finished until all quantities are produced. To find partially finished orders, you can filter the Released Production Orders list by where Remaining Quantity > 0.

Hope this answer will help you!

    Regards,
    Mansi Soni

@Mansi Soni:  Thank you, for the great explanation!  The only thing that I'm still not able to do is to filter the Released Production Order List.  "Remaining Quantity" is not given as a choice to filter on.  What do you think?

    Hello John,

Go to Production Order Line List > First Apply filter of Field Status to "Released" > Apply Second filter of Remaining Qty to">0".

Hope you will able to resolve it now!

    Regards,
