RETAIL POS GETTING SLOW

DEAR ALL;

This is to share a problem with you, which we have been facing from quite a few days. If any of you have any suggestions or experience, please feel free to share. Following is the description and steps which we have taken so far to solve the issue;

Problem:

New item scanning at POS is very slow. The scan time gradually increases as the number of lines increase. For example if 1st item is scanned in 3 seconds the next would be done in 5 and after that it will take 7 ....., after that 12 lines it will take more than 35 seconds and it will continue to increase.

System and Software Configuration:

Core i3, 8 GB RAM, 500 GB HDD,

Windows 7, MSSQL 2008 Express Edition, Retail POS 2012 R3 CU9

Steps taken to resolve the issue:

1. SQL performance tuning

2. Re-Indexing

3. POS.exe.config parameter change (pooling=true)

4. different hardware (all are facing this issue)

Thanks & Regards

    RE: RETAIL POS GETTING SLOW

    Hi Muhammad,

I would like to present some alternatives to find the source of the problem.

    a) You can simulate this scenario in a test environment? If yes, use a POS with OffLineDB and without OfflineDB. So we can say that the problem may be in OffLineDB or POS application.

    b) Did you try using SQL Server Profiler? Perhaps you can identify any query that is consuming your POS application.

    c) There are two KBs. Please, if these KBs are not in your environment, install and verify that the problem is solved.

KB 3122957 POS responding time increases proportionally when scanning items without variants

KB 3105973 POS performance issue after scanning multiple products

    Any news, keep us updated.

    I Hope this Helps!

    Regards,

    Rodolfo Recalde.

    RE: RETAIL POS GETTING SLOW

    Hi Muhammad,

We had been facing similar issues in our customer environment in the past and after applying proper hotfixes provided by MS, we could able to resolve the issue to an extent.....  Rodolfo has already mentioned two in the above post.

Initial release of AX Retail POS had all such issues. It would be ideal, if you can go with AX 2012 R3, CU10 as it has lot of resolutions to various bugs, specifically related to POS performance. This is just purely the suggestion based on the our previous experiences, although in your live environment, it may not be possible.

Additionally, ask your technical person to debug the code. You would find at couple of places, system is trying to connect to HO DB to validate the staff / item and hence causing the lot of issues in terms of performance.

Also check, if you have multiple offers / discounts in the related tables. Just try to remove those records and see the results. At certain places, system is trying to go through all the offers (multiple times) and hence causing the performance issue. Since this would be due to REPEAT Loops, you would not find it in SQL profiler.

Please ensure you are doing all the above steps in TEST ENVIRONMENT only.

    Best Regards,

    Vishal Salot

Only to complement, the KB 3105973 may be related to the correction of multiple discounts.

Maybe that's why, as Vishal said, CU10 solves these problems.

Thank you for sharing your knowledge!

KB 3105973 POS performance issue after scanning multiple products

    Product and version
    Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 R3
    Fix type: Hybrid hotfix
    PROBLEM

POS is taking more time to continue scanning after scanning multiple products.

In addition, you may encounter the following issues:

    1. EPOS performance issue after scanning multiple products with mix and match discounts.

    2. POS.exe is not responding when you set a large quantity on POS.

    3. Retail POS stops working in a mix and match discount scenario.

    DESCRIPTION OF CHANGE

The changes in the hotfix resolve this issue.

Introduced alternative algorithm for calculating discounts, which is enforced if predefined max number of calculations steps/loops is exceeded. In this case, POS will switch to Marginal Value algorithm, which does not guarantee the best discount but provides much better performance characteristics.

Rodolfo,  will those hotfixes need to be installed on all AOS, Async server, Store server and POS registers?

thank you in advance.  May I have your email to communicate?  Mine is alan.zhou(at)outsourceax.com
