Contact auto creating

Hi everyone.

Overnight dynamics created 2 new contacts on the system, both from within my organisation.  This meant that all CRM users who have their emails synced found their correspondence uploaded to the system (luckily none of it was sensitive HR information!).

I can't work out why this happened.

The 'created by' shows as 'SYSTEM' and they have both been assigned different owners, one of which does not have synchronisation enabled.  The other allocated owner has the setting for auto-creating contacts from emails un-ticked so it can't be that otherwise tons of other contacts would also have been created.  As far as I am aware we have no auto-create rules activated anywhere because this seems to be an isolated issues.  

Any ideas because I'm at a loss.  Thanking you in advance!
