What happens when workflow delegation reverts to original owner?

Hi All,

I'll use an example to ask my question.

Person A delegates Person B for all of Person A's approval while they go on vacation. So now, Person B (more or less) "becomes" Person A for all approval requests. Let's say that Person B has a few pending items that they couldn't get to and Person A comes back from vacation. The delegation ends and now Person A has resumed their approval role.

What happens to those pending items sitting in queue? Do they show up on Person A's list now? or do they still show up on Person B's list until Person B approves/rejects them?

Do let me know if I can provide any further clarification.

Please and thanks,

Kartik

    Hi Kartik,

When the workflows were assigned to Person B during the absence of Person A, there is no automatic reassign of those workflows to Person A. The remain to be assigned to Person B.

To have them assigned to Person A, you need to use the workflow history form to reassign these workflows from Person B to A. A system administrator or Information Technology administrator can do this. Also person B can forward the approval to person A.

    Hi André,

    Thanks for your response.

I understand what you are proposing. However, when setting up the delegation through File > Tools  > Options > Delegation, there is an 'End date/time' column where you define when the delegation will end. Based on that (and this is where I am unclear), I am thinking that the workflow would revert back to Person A after the said end time.

In which case, what happens to the items that Person B couldn't process in Person A's absence? From your response, I gather that Person B would NOT be able to manually re-assign those pending items back to Person A. You're suggesting that IT admin to step in and do the needful, correct? Or is there a way that Person B can re-assign them back to Person A?

I appreciate your help on this.

    Thanks,

    Kartik

    Hi Kartik,

Person B can forward the approval to Person A. There is no automated task that the approvals from Person B are assigned back to person A.
