Hello, 

I have an AX build 2012 R2, i m getting below error randomly:

Stopped (error): X++ Exception: This workflow cannot continue processing because no users were retrieved for the current workflow step. Contact your system administrator.
at SysWorkflowServiceProvider-resolveParticipant
SysWorkflowQueue-resume

Sometime it has successfully executed and sometime it has failed on same step or on different step. I had checked multiple times the proper user has assigned on steps. 

Anyone have any idea ???

And if workflow has crashed and i try to resumed then gave me same error, in this situation how the workflow can continue on same step.

    Hi Rahat Ali,

    This exception usually means that AX could not resolve user to assign workflow to. Easiest way is to ask developer to debug resolve method and see what's going wrong, otherwise It's impossible for us to say where exactly you have an issues without having access to your system.

    Please check your user roles and hierarchy setup & signing/approval limit policy / workflow setup.

    This could be configuration or a bug but first all configuration possibilities must be explored.

    Can you share the snap shot of the workflow step and it's setup ?

    Hi Rahat Ali,

    check the relation between the User and Worker from(( "System Administration Module"--> Common --> users --> users ))

    Maybe the relation is not set up for some users,and this answers why the workflow sometimes successfully executes .

    If this error comes under any condition decision. please make sure that inside the condition each step user should be active user till the last approval.

    I am just bumping an old thread but as I have experienced the same issue the other day so thought of responding to this query.

    This is more of activating users in the "user groups" under system administration as error doesn't clearly states or suggests to look for users under user group

    To overcome this issue, simply go to System administration from modules > users > user groups and check how your organization has assigned roles for users likes of construction, finance, project, marketing, budgeting, developers. check which manager has the delegation to approve PO having issue, as re-calling workflow for re-submission wont work unless the below step is to be performed

    Within the user groups you will see two columns "Group" and "Users"

    Select the group and then click on users tab and check for the delegated person who should be activated, simply move the person across to "selected users" column from "remaining users" and save

    Go back to purchase order window and re-submit the workflow and you will see the delegated person who is selected in the user group will be automatically be assigned to approve PO

    That's how I did it and it worked
