Can't add Products to Quotes, Orders, Invoices Without Loading the Product (line item) Form in the Unified Interface

Posted on by 20

The new Unified Interface forms for quotes, orders, invoices don’t allow you to enter products inline on the sub-grid without opening the product form.  This functionality is available and widely used by our customers in the legacy forms.

In the Unified Interface we need to have the same way of adding products into the grid without leaving the form.  Unfortunately, there doesn’t appear to be similar functionality that is available on the legacy forms.  The order product form gets loaded so the user is forced to leave the order each time they enter a product.

Am I just missing a setting somewhere or do the end users need to open a product form each time they want to add a product to a quote, order or invoice in the Unified Interface?

I am hoping I don’t have to develop a canvas app to replace standard functionality that previously existed.   The attached pdf has screenshots that show the functionality that is missing in the Unified Interface.

    Hi Tim,

I've enabled the 2020 Release Wave 1 Early Access in my environment, and enabled the enhanced experience, as documented here:
    https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/dynamics365/sales-enterprise/enable-enhanced-add-product-experience

I confirm that in my tests, the new experience was only available on Opportunity, and not on Quote.

Do you need it on all Quote / Order / Invoice entities?

    Hi Henry,

Thanks for the update.  Do you know if the Wave 1 enhancement also includes the ability to add multiple products to quotes, orders and invoices too?  The link only mentions opportunities.

    Hi Tim,

Does this 2020 Release Wave 1 enhancement help?
You can now add multiple products at once:

Added my previous post into a pdf with screenshots. The editor rendering did a strange mashup of the content.

It would speed things up a little with the create and new pattern, but it won’t be a replacement to how our customers create product line items now.

They usually add 10+ at a time like this:

    1. On the product grid select “Existing Product”
    2. In the “Product Name” field on the grid, select “Lookup More Records”
    3. They can search for products and add as many as they want to the grid at the same time…
    4. Multiple products get added to grid

Customers may edit the quantity on a couple items but its normally a quantity of 1.   Unfortunately, the new experience will not be acceptable for our customers.  If we add additional time to their processes it will not be well received.  (I guess that’s an obvious statement).

Are there other options besides submitting an idea to experience.dynamics.com/.../ or creating a custom canvas app?

    Thanks for your help,

    Tim

RE: Can't add Products to Quotes, Orders, Invoices Without Loading the Product (line item) Form in the Unified Interface

    Hello,

Just to add on that, in Unified Interface, the pattern is a quick create – which will have a Save and Create New button in October to create product lines quickly without having to go to the grid between creations.

In other words, users in web client would have added Product names for each line item first, then add quantity and price for each. In Unified Interface, they can add each line one after the other.

So even though there is a change in pattern, the end to end use case is already solved.

Can you please let us know if with the Save and Create New button in place, there is still an issue with usability?

    Thank you

Can you also consider opening an idea for the "Dynamics 365 for Sales" application on https://experience.dynamics.com/ideas/?

That way other users can also up-vote it.

    Thanks!

    Hi Tim,

That's a fairly good point. I'll raise it to the product team in charge of the Sales app.

There are a few enhancements coming to the product experience in the Release Wave 2. You can check them out here:

    https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/dynamics365-release-plan/2019wave2/dynamics365-sales/enhance-experience-adding-or-editing-opportunityquoteorderinvoice-products

Thanks for your response, that makes sense.  There is still one legacy form feature used by our customers that doesn't appear to have a good work around.

On the product sub-grids for quote/order/invoice legacy forms....

    • User clicks "+" and selects "Existing Product"
    • The product lookup appears on the grid
    • The user then selects "Look Up More Records"
    • The "Look Up Records" form appears
    • The user then selects multiple products and is able to add them all to the sub-grid in one step

Do you know if there are plans to include this functionality or if there is a viable work around?

    Thanks!

Hi, in Unified Interface the experience is different from legacy Web Client. You just need to ensure that Quick Create is enabled for the Order Line or Quote Line entities. That would open the Order Line form on the right hand side and the user will not lose the existing Order or Quote form. Here is the screenshot:
