Exchange Log on issue on Dynamics GP 2016 R2

Posted on by 35

Hello Dynamics Friends!

I am stumped. We had an issue that started last week where no one in our company is able to login to Exchange for GP 2016R2 email capabilities. It just keeps stating Login Failed. We are on a hybrid Office 356 environment. Our SY04920 table looks correct, we're still set to Exchange in System Preferences, our emails are working - no errors in our Hybrid server - all domains appear to be healthy.

The DEXSQL logs aren't showing anything. The SQL Profiler is a headache and isn't telling me much.

This issue is company network-wide which has me leaning towards the issue being server related?

Are we supposed to be able to log into the directed EWS address on the SQL table SY04920, https://exchange.office356.com/ews/exchange.asmx? If so, when trying to sign in with our company admin credential as well as mine (global admin), it is just sends me into a credential loop.

Any guidance would be very much appreciated.

RE: Exchange Log on issue on Dynamics GP 2016 R2

    Hi TeckyWolves,

First and foremost, GP is not supported in a Hybrid O365 Environment. Simply put (prior to 18.3) the Autodiscover process used by GP is very basic and it can run into issues if there are two possible endpoints (local and Online).

That said, I have gotten it to work many times, but be aware that users may lose the ability to email if their mailbox moves.

First, there is no need to jump to SQL. The only table that matters there is the SY04920 and the EWS is there judging by what you are saying.

Usually you should be able to log into that EWS and see the endpoint page with any user attached to that endpoint. For example, any user with an Online mailbox should be able to hit the one you linked.

That said, there are may different reasons why the process could be failing. Most of these are covered under with the email troubleshooting guide, but I will provide them here to save you a download Also, you can skip the 3rd one for now as that covers the SY04920.

Past this I usually use Fiddler to dig into what is going on:
Download Classic Fiddler from the web: http://www.telerik.com/download/fiddler
     1. Open Fiddler, In Tools->Fiddler Options->HTTPS, check “Decrypt HTTPS traffic”.
Click “Yes” on the prompt for trust Fiddler Root Certificate.
Click “Yes” to install the certificate.
    Click “Yes” to confirm.
Click “OK” and “OK” to back.
    2. Reproduce the issue
    3. Stop Fiddler Trace: File->Capture Traffic F12, Save trace: File->Save>All Sessions. Save the trace out as .saz file

Usually somewhere in the trace there will be a 404, 401, or some other error. This can usually be dug into to find the exact error message. For example for many of my Azure AD/Exchange Online cases I see that the security defaults are enabled, which blocks Basic Auth. Fiddler usually shows an error that says "Blocked by Conditional Access"

Hopefully this gets you an error you can work with.

    Thanks!
