2015 Dynamics GP Word Template

ReportReport
Posted on by

I am trying to use 2015 Dynamics Word Templates for POP Purchase Order Blank Form.

I have everything setup, but it seems to only be pulling the default template.

A few things here though, the template that it is pulling does not match the default one that I am using (Does not have the word 'Purchase Order' in big letters on the top right.

Also when I try to assign vendors or vendor classes to the template, it allows me to check them and save them.  But when I go back in to check, there are no vendors or vendor classes checked.

I have imported the xml data from the original report, but as mentioned when I go to use the report it does not show.  I am on Dynamics GP 2015 version 14.00.0661.

Thanks,

Mike

In POP, please make sure the Blank form is the form set up as the default.

The behavior where you go back to the assign window and don't see the vendor or class marked is by design. It's a means to an end.

    Are you using Project Accounting?

On the Report Template Maintenance, is the new template assigned to the company and set as the default?

Is the template based on an original or modified version?

Callens  comments are right on.... but I would like to add that there is annoying behavior with the add customers or vendors window with the templates.... It always shows them as unselected.  As far as default templates.....  first things first.  Set up companies to use templates.  Set up AP and AR to use templates.  Use defaults first.  Make sure they work and then move on to modified..... You not being able to pull the expected template says to me that your company is set to default, you added another template but did not assign that template to your customer/vendor specifically so it is using the default.....  You are doing great in this process as this can be daunting.....really

    Callen and mbrayton,

Thanks for the response, I have been working on this today .

I set it up to use the actual Blank Template.  Which when I went to print - was blank which was good I guess.  However, when I try to modify it, it still shows blank.  Here are the instructions that I used to create:

    dynamicsgpinsights.com/.../creating-a-word-template-for-dynamics-gp

Callen, in response to your questions is we are using Analytic Accounting, but not Project Accounting.

I have the new template assigned to the company and it is the default.

When I go to modify it, it does have my changes in the template.

The only change I made was to change one of the captions.

I have tried to do both, when creating a new template I have tried the Original and the Modified.

It seems like it will not take any changes that I make on the template.  I can pull up the modified template and it has my changes, but when I print it will still look the same.  If I select the Blank Template from New Template it will be blank.  If I select an existing template it will give the original template.  The weird thing with the template that is being produced is that it looks different from the original template that I am using.  The original one looks like the template in the instructions  The one that is being produced does not have the large "Purchase Order" word in the top right.

If I switch the Alternate/Modified Forms to use the original POP Purchase Order Blank Form it will use the original form.  This one does have the large "Purchase Order" at the top right.  I tried to use the Original Report in Template Maintenance and change it - added a new one, modified it and set it as the default for the original.  But it still shows the original.  I will keep plugging away.

Any other suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

    Mike

Ok, I may be wrong.... anyone else is free to correct me....  Templates fi  rst work from the original GP files that are in report writer.  What I have seen (anyone correct me if I am wrong)  third parties override of reports tend to skew this process.  Before you do anything.... make sure that all of the basics work....  that you can email the plainjane doc of your choice.  But after you modify a template.....  You have to either make it the default for everything.... (and if you don't want to do that)....  you have to assign the template to a customer that you want to use that template.   If this sounds confusing....  believe me I know.....  this had me stumped until they have really perfected it in 2015......  I  will try to help you all I can...

You may have done this step but let's be sure.

In the Word Template Maintenance window, click on the Word Template.

    Click Modify

Verify that the format is what it should be.

On the Word Template Maintenance window, verify that it is assigned to the company and set as the default.

Can you post a screenshot of the window? Make sure you select the option to use Rich Editing or Rich Edit Mode.

The table that stores the template assignments is SY20030 in the company database.

If the template is based on the original format, make sure security is set to the original Report Writer report.

If the template is based on the modified format, make sure security is set to the modified Report Writer report.

If the template is based on a modified format, go into Report Writer and make sure that modified format is there.

SCREECH.... !!!!   You are using project accounting...   that is going to be a different report than what is offered for templates.  Before you drive yourself crazy with this..... try to email a pop report from a machine that doesn't have project installed on it.  The reports are different and I don't believe that project reports are supported to email at this point.

    Callen and mbrayton,

Hope you had a good holiday weekend.

Testing it I am printing it to screen.

If I try it on one without Analytic Accounting, it asks me to run GP Utilities.

    Here is what I have:

    The Report Template

Changes to the Word Template (It pulled this one up when I hit Modify).

Saved it locally, then I added it back to the report template.

Made sure that it was set to the modified report in Template Configuration.

Made sure that it was setup to modified report in report writer.

It is still showing the default report, this is the top right of the Word Template.

It does not have the work Test Order.

Checking the Sy20030 table, it has 1010 rows in it.

The Template ID (10015) is the same for each entry.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, let me know if you would want me to send you anything else.

Do you think that Analytic Accounting is causing the issue.

    Thanks,

    Mike
