We have a customer who is currently on Dynamics AX2012R2CU6 Retail, they sell home appliances in 40+ branches.Some branches have one POS (all in one), Other branches have several POS's networked to local server.Connectivity is not stable and the customer need to have the retail database inside each branch.
The customer wants to upgrade to Dynamics 365 commerce. Can we keep this same topology in 365 commerce? specially with regards to the new concept of retail scale unit?
The better way is upgrade the HQ to D365 firstly. Then setup the channel configuration based on the old system.
As the channel framework is different between D365 and AX2012, so you need redeploy the channel for POS. Then run full data sync to synchronize the channel configuration form HQ to channel side.

But how about the retail scale unit ( retail database + CDX ) are we going to have retail scale unit installation in each store?
You also can use RSSU (CDX + Channel DB) for each store in D365.
