So last week manager A told manager B how AX 4.0 has a function to automatically keep track of stock and suggest purchase orders for stock which has reached certain levels.
I went looking and found the Master Planning part of dynamics. I've done a lot of reading up on the many functions and other questions people have asked about Master Planning but I am still left with some questions.
One of these questions is the fact that I have not been able to find anything about the automatic message in regards when the stock reaches a certain level. The only thing I have been able to find is something about "action messages" but as far as I understand it this is just a suggestion to change already existing replenishment orders. So it is NOT a message that says something along the lines of "watch it, item X has reached critical stock levels". Is there even a (standard) AX function in the Master Planning that allows for this?
Another question is if I can set up the Item coverage for several items at the same time or if I really need to set this up per item.
Thank you in advance!
On the item record there is an item coverage setting from the setup button (? not sure in 4). In here you define by warehouse (site was 2009?) if the dimension group is set for item coverage (a tick in the dimension group). Here you can define a coverage group for the item at this level (it defaults from the group on the item record) and you can also define the minimum stock level, the safety stock trigger point.
When you run planning you have the coverage group and plan settings - the system looks forward and sees "when" this trigger is hit, and the "message" is the suggestion of a planned order in the future. You also have the critical on hand stock report that looks at this level, but it not as proactive as the suggested orders.
So AX will not only tell you item X has reached critical levels, it will tell you in advance based upon future orders and even forecasts.
This depends upon what you want - setting the item coverage group on items is setting item coverage for a group of items at a level, but if you want to set a level of stock that triggers the suggestions then this is item by item.
The item coverage setting is indeed under the setup button on the items form in AX 4.0 ;)
Thanks for the answers!
