Accessing Historical Sales Prices in Business Central

In Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central, accessing historical sales prices for customers is crucial for accurate quoting and maintaining strong customer relationships. Especially when dealing with customers who have unique SKUs and tailored pricing, it's vital to understand how Business Central handles price data and where to find historical information.

Why Historical Pricing Matters

Historical pricing data helps businesses:

  • Maintain Consistency: Offer repeat customers prices based on their previous purchases.
  • Inform Quoting: Use past prices as a baseline for generating new quotes.
  • Manage Relationships: Enhance customer satisfaction by offering personalized pricing.

Accessing Historical Prices in Business Central

Prices & Discounts Tab

The "Prices & Discounts" tab under the Customer Card provides an overview of current pricing. However, this area might not contain the historical data you seek if:

  • The pricing is not defined with specific date ranges.
  • Prices are frequently changed on the fly.

Item Ledger Entries

A more reliable way to view historical prices is through the item ledger entries. Here’s how:

  1. Access Item Ledger Entries:

    • Navigate to the "Item Ledger Entries" page via the global search.
    • This page provides a detailed list of transactions for each item.
  2. Filter by Customer and Item:

    • Apply filters to narrow down results by customer or specific items.
    • This will display historical transactions and the associated prices.
  3. Analyze Historical Pricing Data:

    • Review the transactions to find the historical pricing information.
    • Extract the relevant data to inform new quotes.

While the "Prices & Discounts" tab under the Customer Card may not always show historical pricing, Business Central offers alternative methods for accessing this data. The Item Ledger Entries page provides a comprehensive overview of past transactions, enabling businesses to retrieve historical prices. By effectively managing pricing information, businesses can maintain consistent customer pricing, streamline quoting, and improve customer satisfaction.
