Hi CRM Team,
I was analyzing the CRM Documentation for Dynamics CRM 2016.
I wanted to understand the support for REST or SOAP apis. I found this link https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/gg490659.aspx which mentions about the different WEB Services.
From documentation it is clear that the WEB API provides a RESTful web service with full compatibility with the organization service(SOAP) as well.
I have a couple of queries:
a) Is Organization Service(SOAP) supported in 2016 version? If it is, will it be supported for future versions as well or will it be deprecated?
b) Considering the future releases, shall we consider only WEB API(REST) for the new Development ?
a) yes, it is supported at the moment. This article - msdn.microsoft.com/.../dn281891.aspx states that 2011 endpoints will be removed "after CRM version 9"
b) quote from the same mentioned article:
"We strongly encourage you (developers) to use the Web API for accessing the CRM web services when you write new application code. You must update existing applications to use the CRM Web API for accessing the CRM web services between now and the removal of the 2011 endpoint. When you develop plug-ins and custom workflow activities, continue to link those projects to the CRM SDK assemblies. The CRM SDK assemblies will be updated to use the Web API. This update will be fully transparent to you and any code written using the SDK itself will be supported."
Just what I needed!!
Thanks a lot for the perfect answer Andrii :)
I want to know in workflow and plugin , do we need to use Webapi instead of organization service?
There is no need to use WebApi inside workflows and plugins.
