We have MS Dynamics CRM 2015 Server Version 0.1 (220.127.116.11),
and now we want after a long time finally recommend a version for our CRM Outlook Clients.
Nowadays we have the following situation:
60 % with outlook client update 0.1
30 % with outlook client update 0.1 + 1.1
10 % with outlook client update 0.1 / 1.1 / 1.2
The goal is to bringt them all up to the CRM Outlook Client Version 1.2
Besides a bunch of bugfixes, i recognized that the with Version 1.2 the organisation attachment in the configuration wizard is 2,5 faster than with the old version 0.1 and the rebuilding of the metadata after an deployment is 3 times faster.
We had and have huge huge issues after the deployments, when users open their outlooks the day after te whole outlook is crashing because the metadata cache rebuild process starts even if we did only a change on 1 entity it rebuilds the whole metadata cache. we had a ticket openend on microsoft side, and after 6 months we had no solution, so we closed this ticket by ourselfs because we was very very unsatisfied with the successless support. what we nowadays do is to ask then hundreds of users several times druing a year, to do
1.) reattach the URL in the config wizard on the mondays after a deployment
2.) delete the metadata file on the hard disk
this is always a drama for us, but even when Micrsoft was not able to help us, i think we have to live with this problem. During the communication with Microsoft few MS engineers told us always to use the newest Client version, some said use the same as your server has. thats why we are not sure what is the right way.
So our goal is to reduce the time for this steps 1.) or 2.), i think with the Version 1.2 its goes well,
because with an upgrade from update 0.1 to update 1.2 we can reduce the time for 1.) Organisation Re-attachment from 7 minutes to 2:30
2.) Rebuild Process after Deletion of old metadata from 6 minutes to 1:30
so the main question is:
is there anything which speaks agains the fact to have: Server Version 0.1 and Client Version 1.2?
Microsoft brought also 5 weeks ago a new Client Version update 0.3, but i think that this one is not really necessary in our case? i was not able to find a reason to have this installed, am i right or wrong?
does nobody has a situation like this?
As far as i know the Outlook Add-In must be "downward compatible", so we normally cannot make any mistakes, right?
