I know OOB Opportunity entity has Open, Lost and Close status but I was wondering if there is a way we can activate/deactivate opportunity records unlike other entities having status value as Active/Inactive . One of our business use case is:
Our BD team brings new leads and opportunities and in some cases they are not pursued. So they are left with 2 options:
1. Close it as Lost and select appropriate status reason
2. Delete the opportunity
Closing it as Lost puts a negative impression to the leadership team hence cannot be used. Therefore, they are only left with deleting the opportunity and related quote.
I know this is the base layer of Dynamics and might not be able to tailor the application functionally. Can this be achieved via a code?
Unfortunately you cannot add new status or change the status in Opportunity even with code. Maybe you can adjust your sales process by giving more criteria to qualify the lead. It'll give you more leverage to win the opportunity.
