Accounts and Webroles N:N relationship - View requirement

Posted on by 50

Hi,

We associate webroles with our accounts.  This is an adx Many to Many relationship.

Whilst I am happy that I can view the related webroles within a subgrid on a specific account form, what I really want is a VIEW!

A view that will show me a list of our accounts, and their associated webrole(s).  I appreciate that this view may have multiple rows per account where they are associated with more than one webrole.

I have read some stuff about creating a manual intersect entity, but I am lost on how to populate such a solution with existing records!

Is there any other way to get the view I need?

Thanks in advance

    Lu Hao,

    Fantastic addition to Omar's solution!

Very grateful for the useful steps/screenshots (especially as I have never really touched on reports before!).

    Many thanks.

    Omar,

Many thanks for response, and pointing me towards an area of Dynamics I have not really looked at!

    Hi Mark,

I agree with Omar. Using a view is not possible with it.

We can run the report on the view so that its effect is very similar to the view.

I share some important steps when creating a report for your reference.

Add Report entity to your sitemap or create a report in an advanced find.

When creating a report, select the primary entity as Account and the related entity as Web Roles.

Remove the filter for the report.

Add a group and select the Account Name field of the Account entity. Add a column and select the Name field of the Web Roles entity. You can also add other columns.

Finally, click Run Report on the Account view to select the created report. Click on the Name field of Web Roles to open this Web Roles record. This representation is very similar to the view.

    Hi Mark,

What you are looking for can't be done with the views but it can be done with the report as shown below. You create a report with primary entity being the Account, the secondary entity being the Web Role. Group the records by account name and show the web role name in the list of columns. The below example shows how one account have 2 webroles below it. (my other accounts have empty roles and you can get rid of them by filtering the report properly)
