Deploy Dynamics 365 Portal from Dev to another environment

Posted on by Microsoft Employee

Hi,

After having developed and tested my Portal (Dynamics 365 Portals) in my dev environment, I would like to deploy all my configurations (web forms, entity forms, site seetings, ...etc) to another environment,

As WebsiteCopy tool is no longer available with Dynamics 365, I am thinking using the CRM Configuration Migration tool.  The issue is that I have to include a lot of entities, and I am not sure if the data will not be corrupted.

Are there any other alternatives to that ? Are there any other specific tools for this job ?

Thank you

    Hi

I have figured out why I had errors: While importing data, you have to disable Plugins to run. It seems that the plugins are triggered when adding some Portal records (mainly language related records if you have multiple languages).

Do you have the specific error that you get?

Errors are usually caused by not exporting all the entities that it expects - if you export all adx_ entities that should cover everything. You will obviously need to set up user web roles separately. You also may need to export the note attachments.

    Hi,

    Thanks for your response.

I tried this approach using the CRM Config migration tool, but the import failed for some records like web pages. The error seems to be invalid IDs.

Could you share more details about how it works for you ? Did you delete existing records in the target organization ? Did you export all adx entities ?

    Thank you.

Hi, The Configuration Migration Tool is the best way to do this - it will maintain the relationships between each record.

Actually when you install the templates from App Source, the data is installed using the configuration migration tool!

    Thanks,

    Scott
