Automated Mass Data Migration | DGP to D365

Greetings all,

We are performing in-house migration from MS DGP to MS D365. I am in charge of the automation process. I have SQL queries written down, and have extracted all type of data including financial, HR, inventory etc from GP tables.
Now I am trying to export blank data entities from DMF Export Projects on D365, so I can edit the Excel files with GP data, then reimport into D365. Currently facing issues with correct mapping of entities (there is a V2, V3 in some cases).

I would export this, read files via Python and map data from SQL output into the files.

If any developers or community members are interested in automation and development of a nice smooth trick that can solve all data import/export flows; I am seeking guidance on the correct entities, their sequence, and all necessary columns for this process.
I have the same question (0)

    Hi A7 NPT,

To be able to know which field should contain what value, you can enter some data in the Dynamics 365 application first and then export the data entities. You can then see what entities and column need what specific data.

Can someone confirm if this method for data import is outdated?

    Hi AP NPT,

To migrate data the recommendations provided by Microsoft, you can use components like Merged templates, Master templates etc available under Data Management -> Templates. These templates are divided into multiple sections like Workers, Supply Chain Management, System and Shared. There are some entities with representation as V2 and V3, however would recommend to do a field level validation as recommended by Andre. For example, there is a data entity called Vendor V3 with name RetailVendVendorV3Entity but in the mapping has fields has both vendor or retail based fields.

In addition to this, you can leverage the fields highlighted in the screen clip to understand whether those entities are obsolete and are MDM enabled or have options like Set based processing (Used for bulk operations data migration).

Hope this helps. Happy to answer questions, if any.

@André Arnaud de Calavon - thanks, but I am importing data from DGP into D365. I would like to use something like Use templates in data management - Training | Microsoft Learn, and follow a sequence of importing data templates; as recommended by @Navneeth Nagrajan - but this method is outdated.

I am aiming to achieve the following:
    1. Have a list of sequences of master and secondary data that needs to be imported into a fresh D365 install.
    2. Have Excel files for this sequence, so a mapping can be done between existing data, to transform and load into D365.

    Hi A7 NPT,

As you marked the reply from Navneeth as verified, can you confirm you found your answer? Or do you still need help? At least, the templates Microsoft had on LCS, were about loading some demo data into the application. This was not updated and maintained anymore. Apart from what had been shared by Microsoft in the past, there are no other public templates available.
