Multi Factor authentication - configuration for Dynamics 365 Online

I have been attempting to enable multi-factor authentication on the Dynamics 365 Portal, I am aware of the following:

Requirements

Microsoft Dynamics 365 Portal Base, the Microsoft Identity, and the Microsoft Identity Workflowssolution packages
Authentication/Registration/TwoFactorEnabled
Authentication/Registration/RememberBrowserEnabled

What else is required in my environment to make this work? Do I need to stand up an SMS gateway to make this work? Will any SMA gateway do? Or do I need to use Azure AD MFA in my cloud environment to make MFA work in my Dynamics 365 Portal implementation?

I cannot find a document that clearly articulates all of the components necessary for my cloud implementation. Any guidance on this will be appreciated
