Posted on by Microsoft Employee

I've developed a report with VS2015 and used a MS Dynamics 365 fetch file (for datasource/set). The preview looks ok and when I m tryin' to upload it into CRM Dynamics 365 env it crashes.

The message within the log is <Message>An unexpected error occurred while converting supplied report to Dynamics 365 format.</Message> plus a lot of other

There are 2 things that you need to remember when using VS 2015 to build CRM Reports.

    1. You need to change your project to build for "SQL Server 2008 R2, 2012 or 2014" in the settings.  Once you build the project you will need to select the rdl from the bin folder not the one in the projects folder since it will point to SQL 2016. 2. Shared Datasets and Shared Data Sources are usually a bad idea.  I have got this to work once or twice but it always gives me trouble when I do and I still haven't figured out why it works sometimes and not others.
