Model Driven - Lookup Field Search Limit?

(2) ShareShare

I have a lookup field where users can Search for an existing record from Entity A to create a new record on another Entity B:

When I search within this field it seems to only allow me to search by Entity A's Unique ID field only. I would like to search different columns - is there a place I can specify what column(s) to search? The users wont know the unique key.

I have the same question (0)

    Hi,

The Find columns are defined in the related entity’s Quick Find View. Please refer to this blog:

    community.dynamics.com/.../lookup_2d00_multiple_2d00_field_2d00_search

The blog is quite old and uses an oldest CRM version, but this is not a problem, it will also work on the unified interface

RE: Model Driven - Lookup Field Search Limit?

    Hello Myke,

When entering a value into a lookup field, a search is carried out on the related item’s data using the Find columns defined in the related Entity’s Quick Find View.

In your case, you would need to add the fields to the Entity A's Quick Find View > Add Find Columns.

You can follow the steps described in this article: https://powerobjects.com/dynamics-365/lookup-and-search-views/

    Hope this helps you.

Hi Mehdi - I am able to setup the additional columns to search. However, I cannot select the quick find view as the view for this lookup column. It does not show up in the list of views and it is activated.

    Hi,

Yes, it's by design. By default, the additional columns to search will be applied in your lookup column.

So if I add the columns to the quick find - it will allow me to search by those columns on the other views?

    Yes !!

That does not seem to work for me.

    Hi,

I don't have a logical answer to this issue. Maybe Wahaj Rashid can give an appropriate answer.

Model Driven - Lookup Field Search Limit?

To allow search by different columns in a Model-Driven App, you need to configure the Quick Find View for the entity:

    1. Navigate to your Dataverse Table
    2. Open the Views section and find Quick Find Active [Entity Name].
    3. Click Edit and under Find By, add the necessary columns you want to include in the search.
    4. Save and Publish the changes.

After this, your lookup search should work based on the specified columns.
