Contracts in Dynamics 365 Sales

In Dynamics 365 Sales projects, I often need to manage contracts after the quote stage. Since the contract entity was deprecated, and the 'entitlement' entity is meant for Customer Service, I'm unsure of the best approach in Sales.

Do you use the order entity to represent contracts, or do you create a custom entity for contracts, linking the process from quote -> contract -> order? I'd appreciate any best practices on handling contracts in Dynamics 365 Sales and insights on why Microsoft might have removed the dedicated contract entity.

    Hi There,

The Entitlement entity can definitely be used in your Sales application as well.

My suggestion is to use the Order entity and place Entitlements on the Order entity's main form.

    Steps to follow:

    1. From the Advanced Settings, select Customization, and then select Customize the System.
    2. Look for the Order entity.
    3. Under that, select N:1 Relationships and create a relationship with the Entitlement entity.
Once done, go to the Order main form or the form where you want to insert the Entitlements. The Entitlement field will appear, which you can then add to your form. And you're all set!

If you still have issues to connect and if that solves your issue please change the answer status to verified and answered.

    Thanks

While entitlements can be linked to orders, they belong to the Customer Service module, which requires additional licensing. Sales Enterprise users, already paying $90 per month, would need an extra Customer Service or Project Operations license just to access contract and entitlements, so i don't think your solutions is best practice imo.
