Can't view email body in Unified Interface

Posted on by 10

I'm hoping someone can help me with a problem that has me stumped.

I have an issue where I can't view the body of an email in Unified Interface.  I can see the body of the email in Classic Mode, and I can see the body in the Timeline in Unified interface. However, if I open the email record in Unified Interface, the email body is blank.

  • It only occurs when I have created an email using a workflow.
  • It happens even when the template only has plain text (no fields inserted).
  • If I create an email directly from the record using a template, it doesn't happen - I can see the email body.
  • I am using On Premises, V 9.0 (Version 1612)

I would be grateful if anyone has any suggestions.  I am out of ideas ...

Thanks!

Brad

We have already installed Update 0.13 but the issue still exist. Does anyone knows if there is a workaround or if update 0.14 or 0.15 fix this issue?

I have installed Service Update 0.9 and can confirm it did not fix the problem.

James - thanks for the post.  LovitaM - It would be great to know how you went, and if the latest update fixed the problem!

LovitaM - you might want to check if it is fixed in https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/4515519 which is the latest update 0.9 that a fix was supposedly meant to appear in - just hit the web yesterday so I haven't had a chance to load it and KB does not mention the issue - but I have found the KB's for these updates to be very poor and have foudn things fixed that were not mentioned before.

    Hi Brad Orders,

Can you give me the details of the workaround or something I can use to refer to with Microsoft Support.

    Hi James

The best approach is to lodge a ticket with Microsoft, and they can make sure that you have the right fix for your environment (in case there is more than one).

To save time, you can reach out to me on LinkedIn and I will send you the ticket number for my support request (there is only one Brad Orders in Australia).  If you refer to my ticket in your request to Microsoft, you should get an answer in record time...  :-)

    Cheers

    Brad

I'd very much like to know your workaround please. I am working on an on-premise upgrade due to go live 4th/5th October so the October 0.9 release will be too late.

    Thanks Rickards08.

Microsoft have confirmed that this will be fixed in version 9.0.9 in October.

We have a workaround until then - if anyone needs to know the details, please let me know.

As Ian A Smith pointed out, the issue lies in the msdyncrm_/Preview/browserPreivewFrame.htm web resource. You can access this through your default solution.

    Problem
    • The Web Resource msdyncrm/Preview/browserPreivewFrame.html had a pre-condition that required an event origin URL to match one of 3 patterns (see below).
    • It seems like the code was built for online-only deployments – My guess is it slipped the developers mind along with the spelling of ‘preview’.

    Solution
    • Added an additional expression to match when verifying the origin of the request to render the email description.
    • The Web Resource modified was msdyncrm_/Preview/browserPreivewFrame.html
    • Replace XYZ with an acceptable event origin for the pre-condition. Make sure it forms part of the URL for all environments.
    • Include the Web Resource in one of your solutions to deploy throughout environments.
    • See code additions highlight in below screenshot.

    Hope this helps,

    Ryan
