Function and purpose of the tiles on home.dynamics.com

Posted on by Microsoft Employee

Hi everybody,

I have some questions about the tiles on the Dynamics homepage. For every environment (instance) i setup i get two tiles (one custom and one sales (in my case)). What's the purpose of the first one (custom)? And more important, it seems that some customizations does not always show up in both of the tiles when viewing. What's this about? Because i can see in both tiles that the same customizations are present.

Thanks a lot for your help!

Best regards,

Arne Bok

The custom tile will launch D365 with the default sitemap with all the navigation elements and functionality in your system (subject to permissions). This is equivalent to the old non-segmented Dynamics CRM Sales & Service. You should see all customizations in this UI.

The Sales tile launches D365 with the new Dynamics 365 for Sales App sitemap. This is a subset of the D365 navigation with the entities, views, etc. specific to Sales. If you look in customization you will see the Sales app component there and can modify it as required in the App Designer.

Additional Apps either OOB (Service, Field Service etc.) or Custom can be created and shown as additional tiles. Essentially each App tile represents a different tailored version of the Dynamics UI.
