Export/Import Solution with Plugin into a new org

Posted on by 375

If we have a solution which has a dependency of a plugin, is it possible to export from one organization and then import into a clean, new environment?  The situation is two tenants, we only want to export a "module" (i.e. one solution and its dependencies) and import it into a separate environment in another tenant.  Both tenants are D365 online.  Unfortunately we do not have the original code for the plugin so is there a way that this can be done without having to rebuild the plugin?

    Hi,

This is a known issue/ bug with V9 which should be/will be resolved in future. Unfortunately at this time you will have to find teh source code and rebuild it with 4.5.2 :(.

    Hope this helps.

    Hi,

This is common issue which people are facing nowdays. Its seems dynamics CRM online environment using  the highest .Net framework  supported version is 4.5.2.

So there is no way to import the solution till now  ,  without rebuild the plugin assembly in 4.5.2.

In this situation you have to find source code of plugin and rebuild it in expected framework.

If you do not have source code then you have to re-write all plugins.

Thanks for your response.  I did try that and here is what I received:

An error occurred while importing a Solution. : Microsoft.Crm.CrmException: This plugin assembly uses version 4.6 of the .NET Framework. At this time Microsoft Dynamics 365 requires version 4.5.2 of the .NET Framework for plugin assemblies. Rebuild this assembly using .NET Framework version 4.5.2 and try again

So it does appear that we need to rebuild it :-(

I guess where I am confused is that both orgs are D365 online.  Does D365 v9 use 4.5.2 then?  The source solution containing the plugin assembly is D365 online v8.2.

Yes, you dont need code to move plugind between environment. Simply add tge plugin assembly, sdk message steps in the solution, export and import.

    Hope this helps

Yes, you can do. Open your solution and under components at left navigation, you will see "Plugin Assemblies" and "SDK Message Processing" as mentioned in below screen shot. Then click on add existing.
