Hi All,

I have 2 Business Units - A & B. I have a user Mark in Business Unit A. However, I want to add him in a team B which is a 'Default Team' of Business Unit B. D365 tells me that I can't add Mark to another's Business Unit's Default Team and gives me the below error.

Unhandled Exception: System.ServiceModel.FaultException`1[[Microsoft.Xrm.Sdk.OrganizationServiceFault, Microsoft.Xrm.Sdk, Version=8.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=31bf3856ad364e35]]: Can't add members to the default business unit team.Detail:

<ExceptionSource i:nil="true" />

<OriginalException i:nil="true" />

</OrganizationServiceFault>

Any work arounds for this. I've come a long way in using the system that most things are now setup to use the default teams of their respective Business Units.

Looking for resolution/workarounds.

Any help is highly appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

    Can't add users to other Teams
    Hello !

    I found a workaround today concerning this issue.
    You have to go throught the powerapps admin ( https://admin.powerplatform.microsoft.com/ ) and select the right environment.
    Then, you have to click "Users".

    Find the user you have to modify, and first you need to change his division before changing the team.
    Thus, will allow you to finally change the team (For me, it did automatically).

    Hope this helps

    Cheers

    Hi,

    you cant assign user to 2 default team . Default team is created as soon as business unit created. So, if user have to work on two business units, create a custom team and assign the correct business unit and roles to the custom team.

    Secondly, you cannot change the name of the default team, you will hit an error when save it.

    Thanks for your reply Ben,

    I've been thinking along the same lines as well. Looks like there's a lot of architectural effort needed here. Also, another catch is that I can't create a Non-Default team I'll create have the same name as that of the Default one (unless I can rename the default one - I haven't checked it yet)

    RE: Can't add users to other Teams

    Sadly you cannot add users to a business unit's default team as the system is designed to automatically add users to default teams as they are assigned to the business unit. (see stackoverflow.com/.../why-are-users-only-assigned-to-a-single-business-unit) If you want  users to be members of teams within different business units you will need to:

    1) create a (non default) team in those business units

    2) reassign ownership of the records to the newly created teams

    2) add the appropriate users to the new team (you could in theory add the default team and Mark to the new team but that could create issues down the line so it's best to always assign users into teams and not to make a team part of another team.

    Yes it will require a lot of work but this is one reason why I recommend dealing with security requirements early as solving issues like this one can be very painful if you have to recreate them later.
