Dynamics 365 general forum

Moving from stand alone instance to the cloud

Posted on by 5

We are looking a shifting from an onsite instance of MS Dynamics 365 to going online Dynamics 365. We are using ADX and would like to move away from it completely. I have a few concerns/questions about transitioning.

  1. We currently using Portals with our onsite instance to integrate content into our website. Do portals still exist and will the continue to exist for the foreseeable future if we shift everything to online?

  1. Does the Customer Engagement Platform exist in the online version of Dynamics 365 and will it continue to exist into the foreseeable future?

  1. It seemed that the Engagement Platform has the capability to create online forums where threaded conversations can be created and stored in the CRM. Is this that correct?

  1. I found a posting from April 2019 that Dynamics 365 can seamlessly integrate with any third-party content system. Would this be an option instead of using Portals? Would this mean it would be easy to integrate date from Dynamics into say a WordPress site for example? Would this also make it easy for use to build forms on the WordPress site that could relay and store data back into Dynamics? What is the best practice now for integrating Dynamics 365 with front end corporate websites?

  1. Can sensitive data be encrypted in the online Dynamics 365 and can it run on data centres that exist within Canada?

  1. We have third party e-commerce integration (Bambora) with our onsite instance. Will be able to continue to integrate with our existing E-commerce provider if we were to shift to online Dynamics 365?

    Hi rhart,

    To answer your questions.

    1. Yes but PowerApps Portals will replace Dynamics 365 Portals.
    2. Dynamics 365 for Customer Engagement exists for both on-premises and online instances. It will continue to exist for a long time.
    3. That is correct.
    4. Potentially, but you need to look at your business requirements to ascertain whether or not this option will work well for you. There are numerous Dynamics 365 and WordPress integrations available for sale.
    5. Data can be encrypted and stored within Canadian data centres.
    6. Yes but you will need some work done to ensure that the integration between Dynamics 365 and Bambora works.
